How to Wear a Saree?

Wearing a saree is very simple. It is not as complicated as you might suppose. The sarees are very famous for their simplicity, comfort and elegant look the woman gets when she wears one. There is a saying that "Saree doubles the beauty of a woman". So here are the simple steps to wear a saree for the beginners.

Step 1:
A waist to floor length petticoat that is tied tightly at the waist by a drawstring.
A tight fitting blouse that ends below the bust. The blouse can have different varieties of necklines and can be short sleeved/long sleeved/sleeveless.
Step 2:
Take the plain end of the saree (not the pallu end) and tuck it into the petticoat, starting beside navel for one complete turnaround the waist from left to right. Make sure that the lower end of the saree touches the floor.
Step 3:
Starting from the tucked-in end start making pleats in the saree about 5 inches deep. Make about 7 to 10 pleats and hold them up together so that they fall straight and even.
Step 4:
Tuck all the pleats together into the waist slightly to the left of the navel and make sure that they are turned towards the left.
Step 5:
Drape the remaining saree around the waist once more from left to right and bring the remaining part up under the right arm and over the left shoulder so that it falls to the level of the knees.
Step 6:
The end portion thus draped is the pallu and can be prevented from slipping off by fixing it at the shoulder to the blouse with a small safety pin. Make sure that the pin is fixed properly so that it does not harm you and the fabric.
